Dialysis Access

An annual audit is carried out by the UK Renal Registry (UKRR) covering access for Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis. All patients starting dialysis for the first time are included as are the details of the type of access (fistula, graft, line, PD catheter) when the access was put in and which access was used for the first dialysis and at 3 months from start. Complications and infections are also collected thus enabling the UKRR to report on how renal units comply with clinical guidelines set by the Renal Association.

When the new dataset is implemented in 2016 this data will become part of the normal UKRR returns and the quality will improve as it will provide data on all access for prevalent and incident patients.
